Dossier[]
She unleashes the powers of Oni Kuroha's mysterious sword technique and does whatever it takes to uphold her own sense of justice.
Dossier #01: Smoke[]
You have to move forward, even if it's hard.
A sweet voice tickled her ears. It was a dream she didn't want to wake up from. "Please stay a little longer." Despite Mirei's earnest wishes, the person eventually faded away like a puff of smoke, without ever showing their face.
Mirei woke up from her dream and remembered that day. The moment and day that would become the biggest part of her life.
Young Mirei had gotten lost and was wandering around aimlessly at she traveled. Then, suddenly, a monster was upon her. Her brain screamed at her to run, but her legs froze and she couldn't move an inch. She was too young to be familiar with death, but something in her heart told her this was the end.
And at that moment, that person appeared. They killed the monster in one fluid, beautiful motion and turned to face her.
With their back to the sun, the sun was shining brightly behind them. Mirei couldn't see their face amidst the bright light, but she was certain that the person was smiling.
The moment she felt their smile, Mirei made up her mind. She would become a great hunter someday, no matter what happened, so she could stand by that person's side.
Dossier #02: Scar[]
Every day, Mirei tirelessly swung her sword to achieve her dream to stand by the side of the person she admired.
Her palms were stained reed with the traces of her effort, but she was proud of them because they were a reflection of her hard work.
But, as always, the world threw challenges her way.
In order to become a hunter, she had to go through the gateway called Awakening. Her hard work could only take her so far, and the rest would come down to luck. Mirei waited for the opportunity to come for a long time.
You have to move forward, even if it's hard.
Mirei, whose small hands clutched and swung a sword the size of her body, recalled the kind smile she felt that day. You have to move forward, even if it's hard. Although she couldn't fully understand what they meant, those words alone became Mirei's guide.
Dossier #03: Blade[]
The fact that a gate serendipitously appeared in the secret location where she was swinging her sword may have been an unspoken message.
If she wasn't lucky enough to be awakened, then all she had to do was prove that she was worthy.
Reporting unidentified gates to the Hunters Association was standard procedure, but Mirei didn't report it. Instead, she calmly waited for a Dungeon Break to occur.
And when a Dungeon Break finally occurred, shapeless magic beasts streamed out from the gate and scattered in all directions. Mirei charged at one of them and swung her sword, but it only cut through the air and didn't inflict any damage.
She had assumed she could easily deal with at least one magic beasts, but reality was very different from what she had imagined. To make things worse, magic beasts with no form happened to come out from this gate...
If she was remembering correctly, they were just insignificant magic beasts who had broken away form strong-minded vindicative spirits. In that case...
A though suddenly popped into Mirei's head. She had made a scrapbook out of interviews with hunters, and she recalled some information about the way to kill demonic spirits.
It said that magic beasts who cannot be physically harmed should be dealt with by imbuing mana power to the weapon itself. In that case, applying a liquid containing mana power to the surface of the weapon could work as well.
Inspired, Mirei violently slammed her necklace onto the wooden sword. This broke the surface of the part that looked like a gem, and a watery, bluish liquid leaked out.
Finally, she had found a use for the expensive necklace that she purchased with her allowance with the hope that her awakening would happen a little faster.
Mirei jumped towards the shapeless magic beasts again. At that moment, a ghostly warrior wearing an Oni mask emerged from the gate.
She was certain he was the boss.
Mirei swung her sword at the boss without hesitation. As expected, her attack worked this time.
Unfortunately, it just barely worked, Mirei, who was just a civilian, didn't inflict much damage at all to the fearsome warrior.
Her failed attack came at a high cost due to her terrible positioning. The boss held his sharp blade directly above Mirei's head.
Dossier #04: Deja Vu[]
Maybe it's because I haven't awakened...
This is what she thought to herself as she was about to die.
What could have been the cause of her failure?
Her attack just now was almost perfect. If she had awakened, she would certainly have been able to defeat the boss alone.
Yeah, that has to be it. It's not that I'm lacking, I'm just unlucky.
I can prove it. if I had... If I had just one more chance...!
Boom!
Mirei felt a heavy vibration above her sword when she raised it to block the oncoming blade. The warrior lost his balance and took a step back. Without missing a beat, Mirei also stepped back quickly.
She couldn't understand. The warrior's attack was so fast that it had been hard to see with the naked eye, and it was certain that she would be overpowered. But... for some reason, Mirei was able to parry the warrior's attack. It was thanks to her body moving on its own.
Mirei examined her wooden sword. Mana power in the form of black feathers was sprouting from the wooden sword and fluttering to the ground.
"Tsk, tsk. You're unable to dodge its attack because your movements are too big."
Mirei, startled by the sudden voice, quickly looked around, but she couldn't find the owner of the voice.
"You still haven't come to your senses yet. It's understandable since it's your firs time. Don't panic, and just let your body move."
"Then will I be able to defeat that warrior?"
"That's not the only thing you'll be able to do. You can do even more than that."
Then do it! As soon as Mirei gave permission, her body started moving again.
Her steps were light and her arms moved quickly and precisely.
My movements... are the same as the hero from that day.
Dossier #05: Alias[]
"Why didn't you report this earlier?"
That's because... I can handle it alone. Mirei answered.
If it weren't for move, you'd be split in half.
The warrior who looked down at her shook his head. Her conviction was so strong that she didn't seem to realize how close she had been to death. Objectively, she had been able to awaken thanks to the danger she put herself in, so her actions weren't technically wrong.
Soon, she heard sounds of people approaching. The Hunters Association staff came to the gate following the reports from the residents.
"You should probably get out of here."
The warrior told Mirei. Those people wouldn't understand this situation.
Instead, Mirei slowly looked around. The gate closed and the remaining magic beasts were all taken out. Mirei achieved this all by herself.
"I'm not going to run. I'm going to explain exactly what happened here and immediately find out my rank. Also, I want to become a hunter who's recognized by everyone. Of course my parents won't approve, but..."
Mirei picked up the oni mask that had fallen at her feet. Strangely enough, the mask fit perfectly on Mirei's face, as if it had originally been made for her body.
The warrior, who had been quietly watching Mirei, realized her intentions and let out a long sigh.
"Oni Kuroha. That was my alias"
Mirei turned around and saw Oni horns extending above her head.
"Oni Kuroha. Then I'll make that my alias too."
Then the warrior answered.
"You have to move forward, even if it's hard."
The warrior answered. "You have to move forward, even if it's hard."
The warrior had no choice but to help the new Oni Kuroha, who thankfully never forgot about him.
