Cerberus was dealt a rough hand at birth, for he was the runt of his litter.
He was shunned by his littermates and neglected by his parents, leaving him struggling to survive, much less thrive.
These shortcomings ended up being the reason why this runt-of-the-litter stumbled upon a golden opportunity.
A demon noble who dabbled in unique oddities took notice of little Cerberus.
To gain social standing, nobles would offer up all kinds of treasures with the hope of gaining King Baran's favor.
Soon enough, Cerberus was regarded as one of these treasures, and ended up falling into the king's hands.
The king was greatly pleased upon laying eyes on Cerberus, and remarked that the trembling pup "had a piercing gaze despite his fear."
Cerberus's life improved significantly after he began to serve Baran. Slowly, he began to grow to his full strength and size.
Maybe it's because Baran reciprocated his love, but Cerberus' loyalty was unmatched by any demon.
He never left Baran's side on the battlefield, and he would throw his body to block Baran whenever an enemy unleashed a dangerous attack in their direction.
The demons began to joke that "Baran's favorite soldier is his dog."
Baran didn't deny it, either.
The trust between those two was so strong that it seemed like nothing would separate them, save death.
And indeed, it was only through death that they were forced to part ways.
