Dossier[]
The man who chose to abandon his raiding party and flee so that he could survive for his family. He participates in raids with the mindset of prioritizing survival over earning money.
Dossier #01: The Departed[]
Four years ago, Kim Sangshik was declared dead.
The Hunters Association considered hunters who couldn't make it out before the gate closed to be "missing," but it was just a softer way to say "gone for good." In reality, it was the same as being dead.
That particular raid hadn't been easy.
When Sangshik and his party finally made it out of the boss chamber, the D-Rank Healer Jeong passed out. Judging by his bloody nose, he had overdone himself with his last spell.
Sangshik hesitated. The dungeon started to vibrate- a sign that it would be closing soon.
Sangshik threw Jeong onto his back. He motioned for the rest of the party to go ahead.
"How much further until the gate entrance...?" He thought.
Kim Sangshik refocused his hazy head and started to run, but he was already exhausted. With Jeong's weight pushing him down, his legs started to give way.
Just a little more...
Just when he could see the bright light of the gate entrance, Sangshik's eyes fell closed.
Dossier #02: Two Rules[]
Some time had passed before he woke again.
The darkness was lifted away by a blue light, and he felt raindrops falling through the leaves, accompanied by a rush of noise.
What started off as a ringing in his ears turned to a cacophony. But through the noise, he heard something familiar: his wife's tearful voice. Unaware of his broken arm, Sangshik ran to where the sound was coming from.
He would never forget the look on his wife's face when she saw him.
He had saved a strike squad Member Jeong, but he had died, leaving his wife with an unforgettable pain.
Having been given a second chance, Sangshik set two rules for himself.
First, avoid danger.
Second, prioritize survival over making money.
He didn't know what else might come, but swore he would upload those two rules regardless.
Dossier #03: The Price of a Choice[]
But the human memory is fickle.
Sangshik thought again of his rules as he stood atop the Cartenon Templar altar.
He couldn't die and leave his wife and kids behind.
How could he have forgotten?
And now, he'd gone and put his life in the hands of the "Weakest Hunter of All Mankind."
As Sangshik watched two more hunters abandon them, he stared at the closing door in anguish. He thought of the look on his wife's face when she realized he was alive.
But if he ran, the rest of the party would surely die.
No matter what he did, he would pay the price.
It may have been selfish, but he had to choose his family.
When the time came to face the people he'd left behind, he knew that it was time to balance his debts.
Sangshik thought that the first step would be to apologize to Sung Jinwoo. But in a cruel twist of fate, his first step towards redemption was the last he would ever take.
