Dossier[]
A hunter who fears magic beasts. She had no intention of working as a hunter, but after Woo Jinchul persuaded her, she ended up participating in a low-ranking raid.
Dossier #01: A Summer Day in July[]
Four years ago, one summer day in July of record heat.
Down in the countryside for a break, Lee Joohee went on a light stroll as she normally did.
Walking around and looking at the familiar landscape let her forget about her troubles. She felt happiness in noticing the subtle changes each season brought to her surroundings.
That’s why she loved going on walks in the countryside.
But something felt unfamiliar that day.
An unseen force compelled her to leave the walking path and go deep into the forest.
Inside, she discovered a whirlpool of blue light covered by a thicket.
The gate wasn’t as large as she’d seen in the news, but it did give off an ominous and dangerous energy.
Dossier #02: Blue Swirls[]
It was an unchecked gate.
Lee Joohee reported it to the Hunter Association with trembling hands.
The anxiety of not knowing when magic beasts could pop out, and the excitement of discovering that gate and its oddly beautiful light twisted into a strange emotion.
Then suddenly, she remembered the “Gate-Related Precautions” she had read. Gates that appeared in secluded places were often pushed down on the priority list.
Once she came to the conclusion that there was a big possibility of a Dungeon Break occurring. Lee Joohee decided that evacuating the villagers was more urgent than waiting for the Hunters Association.
Dossier #03: A Surge of Anxiety[]
People were aware of the dangers of magic beasts as the Jeju Island Raid was broadcast live throughout the country, so they packed quickly.
Lee Joohee didn’t forget to alert the people working in the fields and the people who were working downtown.
When the majority of people were ready to evacuate, she returned to her grandmother’s house. It wasn’t until she had packed up all of her family’s belongings that she began to feel disharmony and anxiety.
She hadn’t seen her little cousin anywhere while running around to warn people.
It was then she remembered that her cousin left early in the morning to go fishing with friends.
Dossier #04: The Worst Imagination[]
Lee Joohee searched all over the rice fields and brookside.
Her Cousin was nowhere to be seen.
As she ran around the walking path in a frenzy, she heard the sound of trickling water. The sound was coming from the forest where she found the gate.
“If there’s been a Dungeon break…”
Horrible thoughts grabbed ahold of Lee Joohee.
What she saw when she entered the forest was a nightmare come to life. Near the gate was a werewolf looking for prey. Lee Joohee quickly hid behind a tree and covered her mouth, now knowing what to do.
A familiar scream snapped her back to reality. The werewolf that was lurking in front of the gate was gone, and all that was left were a beast’s giant footsteps leading to a nearby brook.
Dossier #05: Enlightened Abilities[]
When Lee Joohee arrived at the scream, she saw the corpses of children strewn about and the back of her cousin’s head. The werewolf had already left.
Her cousin lay weak, gasping for breath.
Now knowing what to do, Lee Joohee stretched her hand towards her cousin’s wound to stop the bleeding.
Shockingly, the wound began to heal.
But even if it was healed.
It was too much for her cousin’s small body to take, and her breathing grew weaker and weaker.
Lee Joohee picked up her cousin and ran down the mountain.
Dossier #06: That Summer[]
Lee Joohee could sense the severity of the situation by looking at the dark expressions on the faces of those who were inspecting her cousin.
No.
She might have already known when she no longer felt her cousin’s weak breathing on her back as she ran down the mountain, but she just refused to believe it.
As the situation came to an end, Lee Joohee had to undergo a reference interview where she was determined to be an awakened being. But she didn’t use the power, haunted with guilt over failing to save her cousin.
For three years, until Woo Jinchul came to visit her, she buried the events of that day in that village, that forest, that brook.
