Dossier[]
An S-Rank Hunter in the Blade Guild. She's cheerful and gets along with people easily, but she's a little obsessive about money.
Dossier #01: The Chosen Child[]
Shimizu was born and raised in a small temple dedicated to the Sun God. Her parents always prayed there and expected Shimizu to do the same, but she was a disobedient and free-spirited girl. She was more interested in her childhood roaming around the village.
Her sister was born when Shimizu was around seven years old. When the baby first looked into her eyes and smiled that bright smile, Shimizu knew she would do anything to protect her. She had such a pretty name... Himari. Shimizu was confident she could be a great older sister.
Shimizu's mother said that Himari had been blessed by a god. She knew because she had seen the sun god in a dream, rubbing her pregnant stomach. Since her parents believed Himari had been chosen by the sun god, they were dead set on her studying religious practice. Shimizu didn't really understand, but her mother's smile seemed warm and self-assured.
Dossier #02: Himari[]
When Shimizu was fifteen years old, her younger sister was old enough to start attending school. Unlike Shimizu, Himari was given a strict lecture from her father about behaving in class and choosing her friends carefully. Himari nodded in agreement.
Was it because of how serious her father had been, Shimizu wondered? Himari refused to make eye contact with her classmates when they approached. As she continued to remain cold towards them, her classmates naturally distanced themselves from Himari.
So Himari was alone both at school and at home. Shimizu was her lonely sister's only friend.
"Himari, isn't this life stifling?"
"It is. But this is what mom and dad want for me."
Himari's eyes looked so innocent when she answered, as if she felt it was natural let her parents decide the direction her life would take. Shimizu had no choice but to let it go.
Dossier #03: Decisions[]
But Shimizu still thought it was really strange. No matter how much they prayed, Himari didn't acquire special or amazing powers. So why did their parents force her to keep up such a rigorous training and self-discipline?
When gates appeared and awakenings began, it seemed like maybe there was some merit to all her parent's choices, but nothing about her sister changed. Praying wasn't helping.
"There was no way they can pray her into awakening."
Shimizu became more and more upset with each passing day. She started at the unlocked door of her sister's room. Himari could leave whenever she wanted, so why couldn't she do it?
"I want Himari to have her own life."
After thinking it over, Shimizu started putting her scheme into action.
Shimizu started by taking Himari to the movies to show her what life was like in other places. Then she helped her make her own friends- without their parents knowing. And after seeing how happy her younger sister was, Shimizu knew she was on the right track. She was going to keep helping her build her own world as long as she could.
Dossier #04: The Escapade[]
The year Shimizu turned eighteen, a festival was held in the village to celebrate the New Year. While she helped her father prepare for the festival, she thought about her younger sister, who was probably cooped up alone at home. Finally she asked-
"Father, is Himari not allowed to come to this festival either?"
"The child is not ready to show herself yet. She lacks discipline."
When will this so-called training in discipline end?!
Shimizu wanted to scream at him, but she held her tongue.
"Himari! Let's go to the festival today!"
While her father remained away on festival business, Shimizu took advantage of his absence and dragged Himari to the festivities. They enjoyed the festival together. Himari had questions about everything, and Shimizu was delighted to answer them all.
She was certain everything would be fine. Himari was building her own life, and Shimizu could still be a part of it.
Dossier #05: A Moment of Distress[]
But their escapade didn't last long. Their parents came looking for them.
Their father scolded Shimizu for bringing her younger sister out without a word to him. Himari didn't move an inch.
That's when it happened. With howls and roars, giant magic beasts started appearing in the mountains. The festival quickly turned into chaos, and people started running away.
Nearby hunters came to help, but their powers alone weren't enough. One by one, they fell, leaving the trapped civilians quivering in fear. Shimizu's parents simply sat down on the spot and prayed. Shimizu couldn't relate. Praying wouldn't fix this...
Before she could finish her thought, Shimizu saw Himari running forward with all her might. She stood between Shimizu and the approaching magic beasts, screaming.
"Shimizu! Run! I'll block them!"
A magic beast quickly zeroed in on Himari, and she crumpled with one blow.
Dossier #06: Her Sun[]
At that moment, intense bursts of light covered the sky like fireworks. Unconscious hunters started waking up- not only healed, but stronger than before. With this newfound strength, they were able to take on the magic beasts.
That bright light that had illuminated the heavens above was a sign of Shimizu's awakening.
She took a step towards her younger sister.
"You're the one who shines like the sun, Shimizu."
Her sister's weak smile that day hit Shimizu just as hard as it had the first time she'd seen her. And then, she made a decision: she wasn't going to be an extra in her sister's story anymore. She would take her sister's burden and become the sun's chosen one herself. She gave her sister a warm embrace.
