Dossier[]
A kendo expert who awakened with magic powers. Having lost his family to a Dungeon Break in the past, he used his new powers to form a local vigilante group.
Dossier #01: Getting Things Done Clumsily[]
Low-ranking gates open much more frequently in comparison to high-ranking gates.
High-ranking gates are usually conquered by major guilds after purchasing permits, but the relatively lower-value low-ranking gates go to the Hunters Association. But there isn't enough manpower in the Hunters Association to take care of every gate they're given, so Dungeon Breaks occur from time to time in low-ranking gates.
For this reason, a D-Rank gate that appeared in the center of a quiet residential neighborhood was left untouched for a week despite the fervent requests of the villagers.
To make matters worse, the hunters that were dispatched after the Dungeon Break occurred did not seem to work well together.
The Hunters Association staff told the watching villagers that they would take care of everything, so they should wait in the safety of their homes.
Dossier #02: There’s No Safe Place[]
As the hunters killed the magic beasts emerging from the gate, the villagers took the word of the Hunters Association staff that the situation would soon end and returned to their homes.
Song Chiyul and his family did the same.
He didn't like the way the Hunters Association staff brushed him off when he asked if there was anything to worry about, but the Hunters Association was often clumsy when it came to their work so he let it be.
He knew that with D-Rank gates, the dungeons had relatively weak magic beasts, so there wouldn't be any big problems.
Dossier #03: An Uninvited Guest[]
When Song Chiyul returned home, he looked over every nook and cranny. The gate wasn't closed yet, so he was preparing for unforeseen dangers.
Just then, there was a cry from the small lawn connected to the living room.
Song Chiyul brushed aside the dread he felt, grabbed his wooden sword, and ran outside.
"Of course..."
His children and wife lay before him. It was the work of a few small Goblins.
Song Chiyul let out a cry of rage as he charged at the Goblins and swung his sword.
He thought he could take down a few tiny Goblins.
But that was a terrible misjudgment.
Unharmed by his attacks, the Goblins began to retaliate. Chiyul fell to the ground near his wife's motionless body. Her wife's soft whimpers had long since stopped.
He believed he was done for. In his final moments he fantasized of burning everything around him so none of the Goblins could escape.
Dossier #04: Sad Survival[]
The Goblins were approaching to finish him off.
An arrow came flying past, miraculously piercing a Goblin's head as Chiyul gasped for air. His burred gaze landed on a hunter with a crossbow. His life was spared.
He lost consciousness. When Chiyul woke, he was in a hospital.
It was a horrible feeling.
What happened to him and his family was being reported as 'The Dungeon Break Disaster'. The Hunters Association staff and hunters that were a part of the raid came and bowed their heads before him.
Dossier #5: What Doesn’t Change[]
Song Chiyul was enraged.
"Why did it happen to me?"
He resented the world.
But the landscape outside of the hospital was peaceful, and no amount of anger or tears would bring his family back.
As time went on, Song Chiyul thought about the root of the problem. Major guilds with the proper manpower only wanted to take care of high-rank dungeons that benefited them. Most hunters who sought money did not want to stay in the Hunters Association.
With the lack of manpower and resources in the Hunters Association, the same disaster that happened to him could happen again.
Then,
what could be done?
Song Chiyul didn't have to wait long to find the answer. Just like the other awakened beings, he suddenly received his power.
As someone who had always had a sword by his side, this sudden Mage-type power was unexpected. Nonetheless, his power would be of great help in improving the situation.
He was scouted by several decently-sized guilds, but Song Chiyul turned them all down to form a neighborhood watch with some nearby hunters.
With them, he flawlessly resolved all dungeons requested by the Hunters Association.
