Secret File[]
The Garsh Clan was ranked nineteenth out of twenty noble houses.
Cassandra Garsh, the head of the clan, had three sons, and the youngest, Izan Garsh, had been weak since childbirth and rarely left the castle.
To a curious nine-year-old boy, the castle felt like a stifling prison.
The boy explored every nook and cranny there was to explore, including hidey-holes that the adults didn't even know about.
Since there was no place within its walls he hadn't been before, each day was duller than the last,
However, the adults never allowed Izan to go outside the castle.
The demon realm was too dangerous for a sticky child to travel.
Izan had no choice but to learn about the world through books.
The altar where the First Flame was first lit, the vast sea of lava, Baran's castle that rules over the demon realm, and the...
"Gatekeeper's Castle...?"
Izan's gaze danced across the map of the demon realm, turning to the Gatekeeper's Castle.
The Gatekeeper's Castle wasn't too far from the Garsh Clan's castle.
It was a distance that could be reached within a day on horseback.
Beneath the Gatekeeper's Castle, there was a place unexplored, marked only by gaps on the map.
How wonderful would it be to go beyond the Gatekeeper's Castle and explore what lies beneath?
Izan fell asleep that night to delightful dreams of exploring every corner of the demon realm, and as soon as he opened his eyes, he stol a horse form the castle and headed straight to the Gatekeeper's Castle.
Fortunately, Izan arrived at the Gatekeeper's Castle without any issue and introduced himself as a member of the Garsh Clan. He confessed the reason for visiting the Gatekeeper's Castle.
He asked for permission to open the Gatekeeper's Castle so that he could explore a corner of the demon realm like his brothers had.
But Borgon Radir, the head of the Radiru Clan and steward of the Gatekeeper's Castle, couldn't allow a nine-year-old child to enter a territory filled with dangerous low-ranking demons. He stalled the boy, claiming there were many procedures that needed to be followed in order to grant access.
However, they couldn't just lock him alone in a room somewhere until someone from the Garsh Clan arrived, so he had his own daughter, Esil Radiru, who was one year younger than Izan, stay beside him to distract him.
Having no friends other than his brothers and an older retainer, Izan's interest quickly turned to this new chid.
Esil was bright and kind-hearted, and she became close to Izan with just a few words.
The two talked about the unknown places in the demon realm they hadn't been to, and contrary to Borgon Radiru's intentions, Esil also became absorbed in Izan's magical tales of exploration.
"Isn't the thought a thrill? I want to visit all the places I saw in my books!"
"But my father said territories ruled by low-ranking demons are dangerous."
"Well... that's true... Then how about we take a quick look from here and then come back?"
He took out a map from his pocket and pointed to the Howling Forest, which was located near the Gatekeeper's Castle.
The two exchanged glances, and then, lightly armed, snuck out of the castle through Esil's secret passage.
As shown on the map, the Howling Forest wasn't that far.
The howling of the wind could be heard from deep within the dark forest, but the two children fearlessly stepped inside.
When Borgon Radiru and Cassandra Garsh realized that the two children were missing, they quickly ordered their subordinates to search the area.
However, they couldn't find the children anywhere near the Gatekeeper's Castle.
Maybe Izan and Esil really had entered the realm of low-ranking demons, they thought.
They were at a loss as to where to start looking for the children.
Just when they were going to split their soldiers into small search parties...
Two children appeared in the distance.
Esil was walking towards them while carrying Izan, despite her small size.
The heads of the two clans rushed to them and realized the proud little children had indeed gone on an adventure.
The children beamed as they looked to each other. They stood between the two angry adults, holding up a small green Mana Crystal as they said:
"We found this in the Howling Forest!"
"The Howling Forest is no longer howling!"
"Esil and I want to become adventures when we grow up!"
"I've decided to go to the endo f the demon realm with Izan!"
Their excitement was swiftly squashed with a forehead flick from Cassandra Garsh, and they were returned to their respective castles without the chance to say goodbye.
Izan Garsh grew up to become an adventurer who traveled the demon realm, just as he had always dreamed.
Though Esil couldn't become an adventurer like Izan herself, she cheered on Izan from afar while hearing about his travels through the occasional letter.
She had no doubt that, one day, she too would go on an adventure like Izan.
At least she was certain until she saw her first battlefield.
